The Col Longone winery is located in the foothills of Friuli's western mountains. The name Col Longone means long hill: the perfect description and placement for a vinyard of exceptional quality and beauty, which lies atop the entire length of the hill.
The heart of the estate is an 18th century villa built on a promontory point upon the foundations of a sturcture from the Middle ages, of which a guard tower is still visible. This heavly wooded area, crossed by spring waters of the Livenza River, has contained vinyards since the 17th centruy. Even many ancient books praise the "suavissimi vini" (very smooth and gental wines) of the locale.
Col Longone consists of 105 hectares, 35 of which are devoted entirely to D.O.C. vinyards, at 4,800 vines per hectar. During the past 10 years much of the vineyards have been enhanced and replanted using the choicest of vines according to the different soil compostions and meterological characteristics of the site. Close to the villa are the wine cellars, endowed with advanced technological tools and a special area devoted to the wines mellowing in French oak barrels. Nowadays the estate gives the impression of an elegant garden and has become completely modern without losing any of its original charm and splendor. Both fields and cellars have been updated with the latest in plants and technologies. We have a well-organized, highly skilled and experienced work team who consistently produce wines befitting such an enchanting location.
